Lutheran World Relief Group Update

We would love to have our core group grow - and you are ALWAYS welcome to join us for our 2nd, 3rd, & 4th Work Sessions, Thursdays from 1 - 4pm. We sew tops for quilts, layer, and tie the quilts. We hem diapers and make receiving blankets. We collect the items for school, health and sewing kits and layettes, and assemble the completed kits. We then pack the kits for shipping.

Over the past 10 years, we have shipped over 1000 school kits, over 750 health kits, over 400 pounds of soap, and over 1800 pounds of quilts (82), blankets and clothing. We assemble more kits than the other Lutheran congregations in Clark County combined! BSLC kits accounted for 12-13% of kits shipped from the Portland SW Washington region Fall of 2006.

Several Folks support our work by making quilt tops and sewing school bags at home. A small number make baby sweaters for layettes. More hands are always welcome!

Wanted: Needle Nuts!!
If you knit, crochet, or sew polyester fleece, we want you!

  •   Each Fall and Spring we have more baby items for layettes than we have sweaters to complete the layettes.

  •
We have some donated yarn (but not enough to make all we need) and some patterns for knit or crochet sweaters.

  •   We have patterns for infant jackets that can be made of poly fleece - and even a little donated fleece.

  •   What we need is your hands and your time to create a sweater or jacket for a baby or small child.

  •   You don't even have to come to a meeting, though you are welcome to our 2nd, 3rd & 4th Thursday Afternoon work sessions. You are welcome to to sit, stitch and visit.

Won't you give an infant in need an extra hug by knitting, crocheting or sewing a sweater - Sizes 6 months to 2 years??

School Bag Kits Are Available in the Narthex

We will be assembling school kits again and need help assembling the school bags in which the kit items are placed. Last Fall we used 152 bags of which 130 were made by our BSLC members. We have TWO completed bags left to begin the Spring collection. Kits are in the large basket on the Narthex table.
