Fair Trade Olive Oil, Couscous, Soap from Palestine a Big Hit at Beautiful Savior on November 22. Wilbur and Lorie Wood nearly sold out of their fair trade products on November 22.  They will be back on March 7, 2010. If you would like to order anything in the interim they can be reached at 360.693.6148.  The following is an excerpt from the letter they sent:

“Thank you and the committee for having us a week ago to bring Palestinian products. Both Wilbur and I enjoyed being at Beautiful Savior, not only with fair trade, but also in the worship service. Please use the enclosed check ($20) for some of the justice work that is done in your faith community. Warmly, Lorie”

Free Clinic Lunches. Thank you to all of the people at Beautiful Savior who have helped with the third-Thursday-lunches for the Free Clinic of Vancouver.  There have been many volunteers and very generous contributions! The lunches are very much appreciated by the recipients and making and delivering them is a simple and rewarding experience.  If you would like to volunteer, please call the church office.  If you would like to contribute financially, you may do so by putting your contribution into one of the specially marked envelopes or simply marking your check for Free Clinic Lunches. Thank you.

Mission & Information

Mission Statement of the Peace & Justice Ministry

Luke 4:18 …”he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight to the blind, to release the oppressed to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”

In affirming our Baptismal covenant to “serve all people, following the example of our Lord Jesus, and to strive for Justice and Peace in all the earth” 1.

Following in the footsteps of Christ we are called to:

  1. Advocate for dignity and justice for all people…
  2. Work for peace and reconciliation among peoples and nations…
  3. Stand with the poor and powerless…
  4. and care for all of God’s creation. 2

Mission statement of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church

“Celebrating, Deepening and Sharing in God’s love”

In obedience to our calling and the guidance of the ELCA as evidenced by the mission of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, we commit ourselves to:

“study social issues and trends, work to discover the causes of oppression and injustice, develop programs of ministry and advocacy to further human dignity, freedom, justice, and peace in the world” 3 and our community.

Plan of Action

Acting on the ELCA’s commitment expressed in the statement “The Church in Society: A Lutheran Perspective” we will work with the ELCA and “other groups on behalf of the poor, the powerless, and those who suffer, using its power and influence with political and economic decision-making bodies to develop and advocate policies that seek to advance justice, peace, and the care of creation” 4.
