Our congregation supports the mission of Lutheran World Relief to seek world peace through partnership efforts with congregations across the USA and international service partners. These layers of partnership are oriented toward creating opportunity and justice for those served through the mission and ministry of LWR.
The BSLC LWR Work Group is a year-round service project that meets weekly from 10:00 AM – 2:30 PM. We make quilts, school backpack bags, receiving blankets and diapers with the support of members we call our Sewing Angels. Twice a year, in early May and November, we assemble materials, with the support of financial contributions and in-kind donations from BSLC members, into School Kits which fill the backpack bags, Personal Care Kits, Baby Care Kits which are wrapped into the receiving blankets which include the diapers we’ve hemmed, as well as Fabric Kits. In addition we ship our stash of completed quilts.
Our Baskets of Promise, found at north end of the hallway, contain kits that members can take home to assemble. The three baskets contain: (1) backpack bag or strap kits; (2) quilt block or row kits; or (3) diapers or receiving blankets to hem. Under the woven baskets for take and sew opportunities are a pair of wire baskets into which members can deposit kit items such as soap, toothbrushes, crayons, pencils, diaper pins, etc. For a complete list of kit items go to lwr.org/kits or check the bulletin board for a printed list.
We thank the members of Beautiful Savior for your strong and on-going support of this important work of ministry. Your participation at kit assembly days, as Sewing Angels and through your many gifts is affirmation of the old Tanzanian Proverb: “Little by little, a little becomes a lot.”
All are welcome to join us in our work on Thursdays, by taking kit bits home to assemble, knitting baby/toddler hats and sweaters, and providing the materials to build kits. Please join us when you are able and stay as long as your schedule permits. Come have lunch with us!
